Kim Meylemans strengthens Skeleton World Cup lead with back-to-back victories

Kim Meylemans claimed victory for the second day in a row at the Skeleton World Cup in Sigulda, Latvia, on Friday. The 29-year-old from Limburg posted a combined time of 1:44.16 after two runs, securing the third World Cup win of her career.
Meylemans clocked the fourth-fastest time in the first run at 51.80 seconds. She followed that up with the sixth-fastest second run in 52.36, which proved enough to secure top spot in the final standings.
The Belgian also extended her lead in the overall World Cup standings. After four races, she has 850 points. Austria’s Janine Flock, last season’s overall winner, sits second on 809 points, while Germany’s Jaqueline Pfeifer is third with 745 points.
Meylemans completed a double victory in Sigulda after also winning on Thursday. That success marked the second World Cup win of her career, following her maiden victory last year in Altenberg, Germany. She also claimed the European title in Sigulda last season.
"I am very happy with my two runs today," Meylemans said. "It is mentally and physically tough to race two days in a row. You often do not sleep well after a race. Several competitors may have made mistakes today because of that. You really have to be in top form to perform well."
The next skeleton World Cup race takes place on 2 January in Winterberg, Germany.
