Dredging company Jan De Nul to install cables for world's largest wind farm
Jan De Nul has won a contract to lay 350 km of cable for a new wind farm off the British coast, which is set to become the largest in the world, the Belgian dredging company announced on Thursday.
Jan De Nul has signed a contract with wind farm builder Orsted. The Danish company is building the Hornsea 3 wind farm off the British coast, which will have a capacity of 2.9 GW, capable of supplying electricity to 3.3 million British homes.
Specifically, Jan De Nul will be laying the export cables that connect the wind farm to the UK electricity grid. The contractor will be responsible for preparing the seabed, transporting, installing and protecting the cables.
Work will start in 2025 and is scheduled for completion in early 2027.
