Iran reports attacks on gas infrastructure

Iran has reported a new attack on its gas infrastructure in the Persian Gulf on Monday. The Fars news agency reported multiple explosions near the refinery in the port city of Asaluyeh, at the South Pars gas field. Later in the day, there was also talk of an attack on a petrochemical complex in southern Iran.
South Pars is the world's largest known gas reserve and accounts for 70 percent of Iranian gas consumption. Iran shares the field with Qatar.
Israel had previously attacked installations at the gas field in July 2025.
Shortly thereafter, Israeli Defence minister Israel Katz announced in a video message that the Israeli army had bombed "the largest Iranian petrochemical complex in Asaluyeh." He referred to it as "an important target, accounting for about half of the country's petrochemical production."
On Monday afternoon, local authorities also reported an airstrike on a petrochemical complex in southern Iran. "Following the attack on the Marvdasht petrochemical complex (...), the fire has been brought under control," said officials in this city in southern Iran in a statement distributed by the Fars news agency, which speaks of "minor damage".
It is unclear how the peace talks between Iran and the US are going, as a new deadline imposed by US-president Trump comes nearer.
