Health Arena centre in Ghent to bring together tech companies and care sector
Construction of the Health Arena began in Ghent on Monday. The centre will bring together tech companies and the healthcare sector.
The Health Arena will be a 4,600-square-metre site dedicated to innovations in the medical sphere, housed at the Maria Middelares hospital. Its objective is to bring together tech companies and the healthcare sector, allowing technology to be translated into practice more quickly.
It could accelerate developments such as a device to monitor elderly people with heart rhythm disorders. Thanks to the partnerships in the ecosystem, a tech company could easily consult experts in the hospital and have the prototype tested by local residents.
The first stone was laid in the presence of the city’s alderwoman for economy, Sofie Bracke.
In the same area, developer Revive is working on a redevelopment project that should lead to the creation of the "healthiest neighbourhood in Flanders". Next to the hospital will be a residential care centre and a community health centre, with a park and an apartment building with 39 residential units.
