Government parties reveal names of Flemish ministers
The members of N-VA, Vooruit and CD&V have approved the participation of their parties in the next Flemish government. The three parties also announced who will serve as ministers in the government of minister-president Matthias Diependaele.
The N-VA, the party with the most seats in parliament, will send five ministers to the next Flemish government. In addition to Diependaele, they are Zuhal Demir, Ben Weyts, Annick De Ridder and Cieltje Van Achter.
Demir, the former Environment minister, will be responsible for Education, Employment, Justice and Law Enforcement. Her predecessor in Education, Weyts, will be handling Budget and Finance, Animal Welfare and Heritage. De Ridder becomes minister for Mobility and Sport, while Van Achter takes over the Brussels and Media portfolios.
In addition to minister-president, Diependaele will serve as minister for Economic Affairs, Science and Innovation, Foreign Policy and Facility Management. He served as Finance and Budget, Housing and Real Estate minister in the previous government.
Two ministers for Vooruit and CD&V
Socialist party Vooruit will hold two ministerial posts and the speaker of the Flemish Parliament. Melissa Depraetere will be in charge of Housing, Energy and Climate, Tourism and Youth, while Caroline Gennez will be minister of Welfare, Poverty, Culture and Equal Opportunities.
It will be Depraetere's first term as minister. Gennez has more experience, having served as federal minister for Development Cooperation and Urban Policy since 2022. It is not yet known who will become the next speaker.
Finally, Christian democrats CD&V are giving Hilde Crevits and Jo Brouns, both part of the previous Flemish government, another term as ministers. Brouns will be responsible for Agriculture and Environment. Crevits will be handling Home Affairs, Integration and Naturalisation and Society.
