Government invests over 3m euros in renovation Brussels cultural venue Flagey
The non-profit association Flagey receives 3.235 million euros in subsidies for the renovation and modernisation of the Brussels cultural venue Flagey. That announced the outgoing federal minister Karine Lalieux, who is in charge of Beliris, the partnership between the federal state and the Brussels-Capital Region.
Flagey is a leading cultural venue in Brussels, offering amongst others classical music and jazz concerts, cinema screenings, conferences and children’s activities. It’s located in an iconic art deco building, on the edge of the Flagey square and next to the Ixelles ponds, which formerly was the headquarters of the national radio and television institution.
“Flagey is an icon of Brussels cultural life and deserves an infrastructure that meets current standards and expectations,” said minister Lalieux about the investments in the renovation. “These works will contribute not only to the comfort and safety of artists and visitors, but also to the appeal of this architectural masterpiece.”
The start of the works is scheduled for the summer of this year. The sound reinforcement systems in several studios and the foyer will be modernised, the scenic lighting installations will be renewed and there are plans to refurbish the foyers.
