Global Climate Strike reaches Brussels today

Climate activists of Fridays for Future and Youth for Climate Belgium are organising a new Global Climate Strike today. The strike is dedicated to climate justice. "#PeopleNotProfit" is the slogan of the strike.
The protesters want to remind world leaders of their promised "climate reparations". They demand an end to the greenwashing by countries in the Northern Hemisphere, which leaves the countries in the South as the victims. The climate struggle should not be a class struggle, they emphasise.
Climate activists will make their voices heard in the streets of Brussels during a march from Albertina Square near the Mont des Arts to the Brussels South train station. The demonstrators will gather at 1 pm and leave at 2 pm. At the end of the march, there will be speeches by Sri Lankan activist Shanthuru Premkumar and 16-year-old Ukrainian refugee and activist Arina Bilai. The organisers don't know how many participants to expect, but hope at least 5,000 people will join the strike.
The Brussels police will supervise the demonstration and will have a busy day, with the European summit at Schuman on the same day. The route of the climate march mainly runs through the city centre and could cause local traffic jams.
