Giant spider on Belfry tower heralds opening weekend of Brusk art gallery in Bruges

The artwork La Grande Araignée is on display on Friday evening on the Belfry of Bruges. The giant spider by street theatre company Compagnie La Machine heralds the opening weekend of the new Brusk art gallery in the city. The public can explore the building before its official opening in May 2026, when its first formal exhibitions will start.
This weekend, Bruges is celebrating the opening of the Brusk art gallery with a weekend of festivities. The most striking eye-catcher is the giant spider by Compagnie La Machine. It has been on display at the 't Zand square for a week, but since Friday it can be seen on the Belfry. On Friday evening, the spider will return to 't Zand to roam around 't Zand and the Visart park this weekend.
In the city, the Belgian collective Lyapunov will perform a highline act. A rope almost 400m long will be stretched at a height of 70m between the Belfry and the Church of Our Lady. A tightrope walker will walk the length of the rope. On Sunday, tightrope walkers will descend to Brusk during an extra show featuring dance, aerial acrobatics and live music.
People can also visit the art gallery itself for the first time. There, the artist collective Numen/For Use will unveil a large tape art installation in the form of a web structure. In addition, there will be a sound composition by Bruges composer Patrick Hamilton.
