Giant omelette brings crowds to Malmedy
Thousands of spectators watched a giant omelette being cooked in Malmedy on Tuesday. The tradition is carried out every 15 August in the town in the east of Belgium.
Before the chefs got to work, bread and eggs were blessed at a mass. Then, 11,000 eggs, 50 kg of bacon, 25 litres of oil, 5 kg of chives and 500 g of herbs were cooked over a fire in a pan measuring 4 metres in diameter and distributed among the 6,000 visitors.
Various local celebrities were initiated into the Brotherhood of the Giant Omelette during the event. The brotherhood also has branches in France, Canada, Argentina and the US.
