Giant ducks take up residence in the Vismet basins in Brussels

Five giant colorful ducks have come to adorn the Vismet ponds (Fish market) in Brussels. Located opposite the Sainte-Catherine church, these new artistic installations were inaugurated on Monday by the city of Brussels and will be visible until next September. Family activities will also take place every first Sunday of the month to brighten up life in the neighbourhood.

Placed in the larger of the two pools, these five 3D mineral fibre ducks will be backlit by solar lamps. From 1m60 to 2m50 high, they will take on a yellow-orange colour in the evening thanks to a powder-coating technique.

“This project is part of a desire to promote shopping districts, while respecting the peace and quiet of local residents,” explained the Alderman for Economic Affairs at the City of Brussels, Fabian Maingain.
