Ghent engine manufacturer strikes 900m euro deal for French nuclear reactors
Ghent-based engine manufacturer Anglo Belgian Corporation (ABC) has won a contract worth more than 900 million euros from French state energy company EDF in a consortium. ABC will supply the emergency generators for six new nuclear plants that France will build in the coming years, De Tijd reports.
In a consortium with two French companies, ABC won the biggest contract in its 112-year history. It will be involved in the planned expansion of EDF's French nuclear park.
The six new-generation reactors will be operational at three sites in France from 2035. ABC will supply four emergency generators for each of the reactors.
“If there is a power outage for any reason, our engines allow the plant to keep running,” Tim Berckmoes, ABC's CEO, told De Tijd. “We worked for three years to win this contract." The contract will create 50 to 60 jobs at ABC in the coming years. The company currently has almost 400 employees.
