Frenchman Rudi Garcia succeeds Domenico Tedesco as national coach of the Red Devils

Rudi Garcia has been appointed as the new head coach of the Belgian national football team, the Red Devils, the Royal Belgian Football Association (KBVB) has confirmed. He succeeds Domenico Tedesco, whose reign ended last week after disappointing results.
The 60-year-old Frenchman will be officially introduced on Friday at 13:00 alongside Icelandic coach Elisabet Gunnarsdottir, who will take charge of the Belgian women's team, the Red Flames.
Garcia began his managerial career in France with Saint-Étienne before moving on to Dijon, Le Mans and Lille, where he coached a young Eden Hazard. He led Lille to the Ligue 1 title and the Coupe de France in 2011.
He went on to manage AS Roma (2013-2016), Marseille (2016-2019) - who reached the Europa League final - Lyon (2019-2021), Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr (2022-2023) and Napoli. His spell at Napoli ended in November 2023 after just a few months. Since then, Garcia has been without a club.
His first task as head coach of the Red Devils will be the Nations League play-off double-header against Ukraine in March, where Belgium will be battling to retain their place in Division A. This will be followed by the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.
