French tax authorities raid pop singer Angèle's flat in Paris

The French tax authorities have raided Belgian pop singer Angèle's flat in Paris in March last year, as part of an investigation. Angèle strongly denies that she has concealed income from the French tax authorities.

In a press release on Monday, Belgian pop singer Angèle emphasised that she pays her taxes and those of her company in Belgium. The statement follows reports of a French tax investigation involving a search of her flat in Paris.

“At no point can it be claimed that Angèle Van Laeken or her company Saïmiri have concealed income or evaded tax,” her communications agency said. According to the statement, the singer is based in Belgium and declares all her worldwide income there. “The company makes significant contributions to the Belgian state every year.”

The French news site L'Informé previously reported that the French tax authorities had the singer in their sights because she might be a tax resident of France. New details reveal that tax investigators raided her Paris apartment on 19 March 2025. Angèle tried to have the seizures declared null and void through court, but was unsuccessful.

According to the singer's press release, the search is part of a “broader action targeting Belgian artists who are recognised on the French market”. The French tax authorities declined to comment to the AFP press agency, citing tax secrecy.
