French-speaking parties know their list number for municipal elections

The parties represented in the Walloon Parliament know their list number on the ballot paper in the municipal elections on 13 October. The Greens of Ecolo drew number 1, the Liberal MR came last.

On Sunday, the list numbers for the municipal election elections in French-speaking Belgium were determined by lottery in Namur. Ecolo gets number 1, Les Engagés number 2, the socialists of the PS number 3, PTB number 4 and the MR number 5.

The numbers determine the order in which the parties appear on the ballot paper or voting computer. Parties often try to capitalise that number in their election campaign but the order has little importance for the actual voting process.

“It is incredible. It is a sign of destiny, a sign of renewal and of a new era for Ecolo. We will campaign to show voters that we are their first choice to protect their environment,” commented Samuel Cogolati, co-chairman of Ecolo.

As is tradition, the other parties were also delighted with their number.

The draw for the Flemish-speaking parties will take place on Tuesday in Errera House, Brussels.
