Four-day pause in Gaza fighting set to begin on Thursday morning
The humanitarian truce agreed between Israel and Hamas is due to take effect at 10.00 local time on Thursday, Hamas representative Mousa Mohammed Abu Marzook told TV channel Al-Jazeera.
Earlier, it was announced that Hamas and Israel had reached an agreement on a four-day ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. During that time, 50 Israeli women and children being held hostage by Hamas are due to be exchanged for 150 Palestinian prisoners.
Among the 300 prisoners who may be released are 33 women, 123 minors and 144 men aged around 18, according to an official Israeli list published on Wednesday. Forty-nine are members of Hamas, 60 are members of Fatah, the party of the president of the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank, and 17 belong to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a Marxist-based Palestinian movement.
