Four Belgian museums in the running for European award

Four museums located in Belgium have been nominated for the European Museum of the Year Award 2022 (EMYA), which pays particular attention to visitor experience.

A total of 60 museums across Europe have been nominated for the award, including four Belgian museums, namely the Library of the Dukes of Burgundy of the Royal Library of Belgium (KBR), the MigratieMuseumMigration (MMM) in Molenbeek, the museum of the University of Ghent (GUM) and Musée L, the university museum of Louvain-la-Neuve.

The news was announced on Thursday by the Estonian National Museum, which will organise this year’s official EMYA awards ceremony in Tartu, Estonia, from Wednesday 4 to Saturday 7 May 2022, during the European Museum Forum.

Rather than focus on the quality or quantity of the collections in the museums, the award takes into account the general atmosphere that visitors find in the museum.

Germany and Switzerland are the only countries with slightly more museums that have been nominated, with five and six included in the first listing.
