Foss (Norway) becomes new time trial world champion, Evenepoel takes third place

The Norwegian cyclist Tobias Foss crowned himself the new time trial world champion at the World Cycling Championships in Wollongong, Australia, on Sunday, three seconds ahead of Stefan Küng. Belgian Remco Evenepoel, who won the Vuelta de España earlier this month, secured the bronze medal.
The 25-year-old Foss, a two-time Norwegian time trial champion and member of Jumbo-Visma, succeeds Filippo Ganna. The Italian two-time defending champion and top favourite disappointed with a seventh place.
The location for this world championship has caused difficulties for some cyclists. Several high-profile athletes, such as the Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard, decided not to participate due to the distance and logistical problems.
Earlier in the day, Dutch rider Ellen van Dijk extended her women's world time trial title. Next Sunday, the road world championship will take place. Big names such as Evenepoel, Van Aert, Pogacar en Van der Poel will fight for the rainbow jersey on the 266 km long course.
