For the first time, more than 46 million tourist overnight stays in Belgium

Belgian holiday accommodations recorded a record number of overnight stays in 2025, reaching more than 46.1 million, according to preliminary figures released on Thursday by Statbel.
The total marks an increase of over 1.2 million overnight stays compared with 2024, or 3 per cent. These stays were spread across 19.6 million arrivals, averaging just over two nights per stay. The figures include not only leisure travel but also visits linked to conferences and seminars.
Hotels remained the most popular form of accommodation, accounting for 21.4 million overnight stays, or around 46 per cent of the total. However, growth in hotel stays was more modest, rising by 2 per cent. The sharpest increase was recorded at campsites, where overnight stays grew by 11 per cent, representing about 8 per cent of the total.
Regionally, nearly two-thirds of overnight stays (63 per cent) took place in Flanders, where numbers rose by 2 per cent. Wallonia saw the strongest growth, up 6 per cent and accounting for around one-fifth of all stays. In the Brussels-Capital Region, the number of overnight stays remained stable.
Data on the origin of tourists in 2025 is not yet available. In 2024, domestic tourists accounted for slightly more overnight stays than foreign visitors, who were primarily from the Netherlands, Germany and France.
