Flying Bark Productions to produce Stranger Things animated series
The recently announced Stranger Things animated series will be produced by Flying Bark Productions, an animation studio owned by Belgian production company Studio 100. The studio is working with streaming powerhouse Netflix for the first time.
Stranger Things, an American sci-fi horror series set in the 1980s, was first released in 2016 and premiered its fourth season in 2022. The show, created by brothers Matt and Ross Duffer, has garnered several Emmy nominations. While a fifth season is still in the works, the Stranger Things universe is now set to expand with an animated series. Flying Bark Productions has already begun work on the spin-off, but little is known about what the show will look like or when it will be released.
The Australian animation studio was acquired in 2008 by Studio 100, which specialises in children's TV series and films. It is responsible for the production company's animated series such as Maya the Bee, Vic the Viking and Heidi.
"In addition to working on our own characters, we are now increasingly working on behalf of major international streaming platforms," said Hans Bourlon, CEO of Studio 100. "The quality we deliver with our own series convinces many international players to produce series with us." added Bourlon.
Flying Bark Productions now produces series for Disney+, Marvel, Nickelodeon and LEGO. At the end of last year, Paramount also teamed up with Flying Bark Productions for a new Avatar film. Studio 100 is "particularly proud" that Netflix has now also turned to them, says Bourlon.
Studio 100, based in Schelle, Antwerp province, has not spoken about the cost of the Stranger Things spin-off. Flying Bark Productions had a turnover of more than 32 million euros last year, which Studio 100 expects to increase in the future.
