Flemish lingerie stores collect 24,000 bras for charity
More than 100 lingerie stores have collected 24,000 old bras for charity. Fedelin, the federation for independent lingerie retailers and Mode Unie reported this on Wednesday.
This year, the collection campaign took place for the tenth time. During the previous nine editions, the lingerie stores collected almost 250,000 bras in total.
In November 2024, the 105 participating lingerie stores collected 1,460 kg of bras, which is equivalent to approximately 24,000 pieces. "A great success," says Isolde Delanghe, director of Mode Unie. "During this tenth edition, we also saw that customers were very enthusiastic about trading in their old bras and thus supporting the charity of We Make Hope."
The campaign has a dual purpose for Fedelin: "On the one hand, the aim of the campaign is to reward loyal customers by giving them a discount voucher when they bring in their old bras, as a token of appreciation to shop at their local lingerie store and support local retail. On the other hand, the participants also want to give something back to society and support women who have less access to quality lingerie," says Delanghe.
We Make Hope, formerly Wereld Missiehulp, supported the campaign and ensured that the unwearable bras are processed sustainably. "The realisation that sustainable entrepreneurship is the future is becoming increasingly clear, also within the lingerie sector," says Delanghe. The still wearable collected bras are given a new life via We Make Hope for women who have less access to quality lingerie.
