Grain milling company expands with major German acquisition
A grain milling company from East Flanders is expanding significantly following a recent acquisition in Germany. On Tuesday, Dossche Mills announced that it had received clearance from competition authorities to acquire Mühle Rüningen, a German grain mill with five locations and around 200 employees.
Mühle Rüningen, which grinds approximately 1 million tonnes of grain annually, achieved an annual turnover of 350 million euros in 2023. As part of the acquisition, the German mill’s management team will remain in place.
This acquisition represents a major boost for Dossche Mills. With the addition of Mühle Rüningen, the workforce will increase to about 600 employees, and its annual turnover will rise to roughly 800 million euros.
"The acquisition brings together two grain icons in their respective markets," said CEO Kristof Dossche. "It allows us to serve French, German and Benelux customers even more efficiently and to offer better service.”
In total, the expanded group is now positioned to mill over 2 million tonnes of grain per year. This growth cements Dossche Mills’ role as the core of the Dossche family group from Deinze, including other food enterprises like baker Gourmand Pastries and tortilla maker Mexma. With the addition of Mühle Rüningen, the group’s turnover will surpass 1 billion euros.
