Flemish government reaches agreement on 2026 budget

The Flemish government has reached an agreement on next year's budget, minister president Matthias Diependaele announced on X.
In recent days, the government has been seeking 1.5 billion euros to keep next year's budget on track for the intended balance in 2027. This is a relatively unprecedented effort. One of the most difficult sticking points was the increase in health insurance premiums. This will increase by approximately 35 to 100 euros a year for most people in 2026.
"We have just reached an important agreement after lengthy but constructive budget discussions," Diependaele said. "Flanders is looking ambitiously to the future."
Policy priorities
With the budget agreement finalised, Diependaele, of N-VA, can make his September Declaration in the Flemish Parliament on Monday.

The September Declaration is the annual policy statement delivered by the minister president to the Flemish Parliament, usually on the fourth Monday of September. It outlines the government’s assessment of the region’s social and economic situation, sets out the main policy priorities for the coming year and presents the Flemish budget.
In the coming days and weeks, the federal government has to decide on its budget, which involves a much larger budget cut. The regional governments of Brussels and Wallonia still have to present their budget cuts.
