Flemish government expands dual learning portfolio with 19 brand new courses

The Flemish government is adding 19 additional dual learning courses to its portfolio. Anyone who wants to become a fisherman, care assistant or butcher, can now take advantage of the dual learning platform from 2023-2024. Flemish Minister of Education, Ben Weyts, and Minister of Employment, Hilde Crevits, announced this on Friday.
The Flemish system of dual learning was rolled out in 2019. Youngsters from the age of 15 can now combine learning in the classroom with learning in the workplace. The system aims to prepare the pupils for the labor market.
In recent years, the possibilities of dual learning have been systematically expanded, hence why the Flemish government is adding 19 new courses to the list. Pupils in special education classes also receive a wider range of training courses with on-the-job learning: they can, among other things, follow a dual training course as a shop assistant, packer or employee of a dishwashing kitchen.
Ministers Weyts and Crevits want to continue to expand the offer for dual learning. “The greater the offer of dual learning, the more young people can learn a trade in their future workplace,” they claim.
