Flemish government donates €200,000 to Red Cross in Ukraine
The Flemish government has donated 200,000 euros to the Red Cross Flanders International for humanitarian aid in Ukraine.
Flemish minister-president Matthias Diependaele announced the donation in a statement on Sunday morning. The funds will be used for awareness-raising and training sessions on the risks associated with unexploded devices such as mines and other war material.
"This financial boost can help them share their on-the-ground expertise with residents in war zones to ensure that unexploded devices does not cause additional casualties in this armed conflict," Diependaele said.
In areas where recent fighting has taken place, unexploded ordnance continues to pose a threat to local populations and aid workers. Awareness raising and training will teach people how to deal with these hazards safely.
Red Cross Flanders is working with the German Red Cross (GRC) to support the Ukrainian Red Cross (URCS) in these efforts.
