Flanders aims for 30,000 reception places for Ukrainian refugees by mid-June

Together with local authorities, the government of Flanders wants to scale up the capacity for sustainable accommodation of Ukrainian refugees to 30,000 places by mid-June. That is what Flemish Minister of Housing Matthias Diependaele (N-VA, Flemish nationalists) said on Thursday in the Flemish Parliament. " This way, we want to stay one step ahead of the reception need and influx," said the minister.
Initially, Flanders aimed for 18,000 reception places by the end of March, which is today. That objective is said to have been achieved. The government of Flanders, however, wants to anticipate the further influx and has now approved an upscaling strategy adjusting the objective to 30,000 places by June 15. To this end, the Flemish government has drawn up a new framework for the financial support of local authorities. This framework will be briefed to the local authorities later today.
