Fire at waste processing company in Anderlecht disrupts train traffic

A fire is raging at a waste processing company in the Brussels municipality of Anderlecht on Thursday morning. This is causing considerable disruption to rail traffic in the vicinity.

According to fire brigade spokesman Walter Derieuw, a pile of waste of around 50 square metres is on fire at a waste processing company in Anderlecht. The fire is causing a thick plume of black smoke that can be seen from far away.

The fire brigade is on site and has the fire under control. The pile of waste is currently being dismantled with a crane belonging to the company so that everything can be extinguished.

Because the fire is close to the railway, train services between Ghent and Brussels have been temporarily suspended on the “fast” line 50A between Brussels-South and Denderleeuw for safety reasons. Trains are being diverted as far as possible via the “classic” passenger line 50 (Brussels-Ghent). Some trains are being diverted via Denderleeuw. According to the NMBS/SNCB, delays and cancellations are possible.
