FIFA reveals World Cup schedule, Belgium to open against Egypt

On Saturday, FIFA unveiled the full match schedule for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, during a ceremony at the Kennedy Center in Washington.
Belgium will kick off their campaign on 15 June against Egypt in Seattle, with the match starting at 9pm Belgian time. On paper, Egypt, led by Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, are the toughest opponent in Group G, though the the North-African squad has never won a match at a World Cup.
The Red Devils' second fixture comes on 21 June, again at 9pm Belgian time, against Iran in Los Angeles. Due to geopolitical tensions, several Iranian football officials were denied US visas for the draw. While the players and technical staff are expected to receive entry clearance for the tournament, the situation remains uncertain for Iranian supporters wishing to travel.
Belgium will close out their group stage on 26 June in Vancouver against New Zealand. Because the match kicks off at 9pm local time, Belgian fans will have to tune in at 5am on the 27th to watch the kick-off. On paper, this should be the most manageable fixture, as New Zealand are only ranked 86th in the world.
Logistical challenge
Belgium's biggest challenge during the group stage might be long travel distances between venues: the stretch between Los Angeles and Vancouver alone spans nearly 1,800 kilometres. As Belgium are playing twice in the Pacific Northwest, a region which also enjoys mild summer temperatures, the Belgian FA is expected to base the team there.
The top two teams in each group and the eight best third-placed sides will progress to the knockout round. If Belgium finish first in Group G, they will face the third-placed team from Groups A, E, H, I or J in the round of 16, scheduled for 1 July in Seattle. A win there would keep them in Seattle for the quarter-final on 6 July.
