Extra police should shorten queues at Brussels airport this summer

The federal police will staff all checkpoints at Brussels Airport to maximum capacity throughout the summer, says minister of the Interior Bernard Quintin (MR) on Monday.

Long waiting times at border controls at Brussels Airport, up to 3 – 4 hours, have long been a problem. Minister Quintin's summer plan aims to address this during the upcoming summer period.

Specifically, there are currently ten checkpoints for departing passengers and twelve for arriving passengers in the airport's two main terminals. Quintin says that the federal police will staff these posts "to maximum capacity" throughout the "entire summer," and especially during peak times. At those times, sometimes thousands of passengers arrive at the checkpoints simultaneously.

Minister Quintin previously announced a large-scale training and recruitment round to eliminate past staff shortages. Sixty specialized officers are currently undergoing training, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.
