Eurozone 2024 economic growth slightly higher than expected

The eurozone economy grew more strongly than previously estimated last year. According to Eurostat's third estimate published on Friday, gross domestic product rose by 0.9 percent in 2024.
In an earlier estimate, Eurostat reported that the eurozone economy grew by 0.7 percent last year. In 2023, the eurozone economy grew by 0.4 percent.
The revision is linked to stronger-than-expected growth in the fourth quarter. The European statistics office has revised the growth rate for this period upwards for a second time.
According to Eurostat, eurozone GDP rose by 0.2 per cent in the fourth quarter compared with the previous quarter. In February, the organisation reported growth of 0.1 per cent.
In Belgium, gross domestic product grew by 0.2 per cent in the final quarter of 2024, in line with the euro area average. The German and French economies contracted slightly at the end of last year, by -0.2 and -0.1 per cent respectively.
