European Short-Course Championships: Roos Vanotterdijk wins silver in 50m butterfly with new Belgian record

Roos Vanotterdijk has claimed silver in the 50m butterfly at the European Short-Course Swimming Championships in Lublin, Poland, setting a new Belgian record in the process.
The 20-year-old finished Wednesday's final in 24.84 seconds, just behind Denmark’s Martine Damborg, who was 23 hundredths of a second faster. Bronze went to France’s Béryl Gastaldello.
This is Vanotterdijk’s third consecutive Belgian record in the 50m butterfly event. Having qualified for the semi-finals on Tuesday morning with a time of 25.20, she improved to 25.06 in the semi-finals later that day, earning her the second-fastest time going into the final.
This is Belgium’s first medal of the European Championships. Vanotterdijk has also qualified for the semi-finals of the 100m individual medley, scheduled for Wednesday evening.
