On Wednesday evening, Roos Vanotterdijk claimed silver in the 50 m butterfly at the European Short-Course Swimming Championships in Lublin, Poland, setting a new Belgian record in the process.
The 20-year-old finished the final in 24.84 seconds, just behind Denmark’s Martine Damborg, who was 23 hundredths of a second faster. Bronze went to France’s Béryl Gastaldello.
This marks Vanotterdijk’s third consecutive Belgian record in the 50 m butterfly event. Having qualified for the semi-finals on Tuesday morning with a time of 25.20, she improved to 25.06 in the semi-finals later that day, earning her the second-fastest time going into the final.
