Enabel extends cooperation with Port of Antwerp-Bruges for development projects in Africa
The development agency Enabel has extended its cooperation with the Port of Antwerp-Bruges for its development projects in Africa. The Belgian partners will coordinate their activities on the continent for another five years, Enabel announced in a press release on Wednesday.
The two Belgian companies are working together to develop local ports in African countries, including in Benin, Senegal and Guinea, promoting their local and regional economic development.
"Infrastructure is essential for sustainable growth on the African continent," Enabel's statement reads. "Especially in the face of increasing competition from China, Russia, Turkey and the Gulf States, Europe and Africa are trying to forge partnerships based on mutual interests."

According to Enabel, Africa is essential to the success of the energy transition. Europe needs Africa as much as vice versa. "In the geopolitical context, Africa's role is more important than in the past," says Jean Van Wetter, CEO of Enabel. "Belgium has an important role to play on this continent."
Enabel's work on the continent focuses on self-reliance, green industrialisation and socio-economic development in Africa. Concrete projects include a green corridor in the Democratic Republic of Congo, green hydrogen in Namibia and Morocco, and transport on Lake Tanganyika via the Dakar-Abidjan corridor.
