Emma Plasschaert wins bronze medal at European Sailing Championships

Two-time world champion Emma Plasschaert has sailed to a bronze medal in the ILCA 6 class on the final day of the European Sailing Championships in Sweden. Fellow Belgian William De Smet finished fourth in the ILCA 7 class, just missing out on a medal.

Emma Plasschaert managed to stay just ahead of Maxime Jonker from the Netherlands at the European Sailing Championships. Denmark's Anna Munch was crowned European champion, with silver going to Poland's Agata Barwinska.

After 2018 and 2019, this is the third time that Plasschaert brings home a bronze medal from a European championship. The 31-year-old from Ostend did even better at the world championships, winning gold in 2018 and 2021.

William De Smet just missed out on a medal. He finished fourth, his best result ever at a European championship. De Smet ended up four points behind the bronze medallist, Britain's Finley Dickinson. The gold went to another Brit, Michael Beckett, who had a comfortable lead over silver medallist Duko Bos.

For De Smet, this is another boost after his 9th place at the World Championships in May, which was his best result ever at a world championship.
