Belgian basketball star Emma Meesseman added another milestone to her extraordinary career on Sunday evening, winning the EuroLeague Women title with Fenerbahce in Zaragoza, Spain. The Belgian is now the outright record-holder for the most titles in the competition's history.

In an all-Turkish final, Fenerbahce defeated Galatasaray 68-55, with Meesseman in dominant form. The reigning Belgian Sportswoman of the Year was the game's top scorer, finishing with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists.

With her seventh EuroLeague Women title, the 32-year-old from Ypres now holds the competition's all-time record in the modern format, which has been in place since 1996. Her first four titles came with Russian powerhouse UMMC Ekaterinburg; the last three with Fenerbahce.

A near-flawless season

"I love making history," Meesseman said after the final. "I come from a small country. When I saw that trophy for the first time, I didn't know if it would ever happen. But so many years later, here I am, with seven titles. That's really cool."

The EuroLeague triumph caps a remarkable domestic campaign with Fenerbahce, who claimed their eighth consecutive Turkish league title, going through the entire home schedule undefeated and losing only once across all competitions. Meesseman contributed to the club's last three Turkish league titles.

National legend

Next to her achievements in club competitions, Meesseman also guided the Belgian national team, nicknamed the Belgian Cats, to the country's first European title in 2023 with a victory over Spain. Two years later the Cats successfully defended that title against the same opponents.

Belgium's basketball class is not limited to Meesseman. At Fenerbahce, she is joined by Julie Allemand, who also had a starring role in Sunday's final. Allemand recorded 13 points, 10 assists and 9 rebounds, narrowly missing a triple-double, and was named MVP of the Final Six. Both Meesseman and Allemand were named to the All-EuroLeague Women First Team and the All-Star Five.
