Emma Meesseman returns to US basketball league with New York Liberty

After a three-year absence, Belgian basketball star Emma Meesseman is set to return to the US WNBA. According to US media, the 32-year-old power forward has signed for New York Liberty, defending champions and currently second in the league.
Meesseman has spent the past three years at Turkish club Fenerbahçe. The timing of her move to the US depends on her visa, ESPN says.
If she arrives in the next few days, Meesseman may line up on Saturday against LA Sparks, the team of fellow Belgian Cats Julie Vanloo and Julie Allemand. The three were part of the national team that successfully defended their EuroBasket title in June.
Meesseman knows the American league well, having played in the WNBA for eight years for the Washington Mystics and Chicago Sky. She won the WNBA in 2019 with the Mystics, under current national coach Mike Thibault, and was named Most Valuable Player in the finals.
