Elections 2024: N-VA remains largest party in Flanders, says new poll
If elections were held today, N-VA would gain 26.7 per cent of the vote and crown itself the largest party in Flanders once again. That suggests a poll by the Belgian media Het Laatste Nieuws, VTM Nieuws, RTL and Le Soir.
The Flemish-nationalist, liberal-conservative N-VA gained 25.6 per cent in the June elections and, more than three months later, Bart De Wever's party adds another percentage point. Far-right party Vlaams Belang comes second again, but with 23.2 per cent it achieved a better result than in the elections.
Vooruit is the third-largest party in Flanders by a wide margin. The socialists get 14.8 percent, which is more than in June. CD&V, on the other hand, drops to 11.3 per cent. In June, the Christian democrats received 12.8 per cent of the vote. Far-left party PVDA scores 8.9 per cent in the poll, slightly higher than its election result.
The poll brings more bad news for Open VLD. The Flemish liberals in June achieved the worst election result ever, with 8.7 per cent, and now drop even further to 6.8 per cent. Green party Groen comes in even lower. The party only convinces 6.5 per cent of the voters, which is a full percentage point less than in June.
Bart De Wever remains Flanders' most popular politician, followed by Tom Van Grieken of Vlaams Belang and Conner Rousseau of Vooruit. Outgoing prime minister Alexander De Croo falls out of the top three.
In Wallonia, MR obtains 26.6 per cent and remains the largest party, just as in the elections, although the liberals lose some ground. Centrist party Les Engagés remains second, but rises from 20 to 22.6 per cent. Socialist party PS scores slightly lower with 21.7 per cent. MR also remains the largest in Brussels with 22.6 per cent, but there PS gains some ground and gets 20.4 per cent.
