"body": "
Belgian maritime contractor DEME has won its first major offshore wind contract in Japan, the company announced on Friday.

The project, called Oga-Katagami-Akita, will be built off the coast of Katagami in the Sea of Japan. It will include 21 offshore wind turbines, each with a capacity of 15 megawatts.

The contract was awarded to Japan Offshore Marine, a joint venture between DEME and Japanese contractor Penta-Ocean. The companies will handle the engineering work and use the installation vessel Sea Challenger for the project.

DEME said its share of the contract is worth up to €50 million. The installation works are expected to begin in the second half of 2027.

The deal is an important step for DEME in Japan, which the company sees as a growing market for offshore wind energy.
