Coronavirus in Belgium: infections, hospital admissions and deaths on the rise

Infections, hospitalisations and deaths due to SARS-CoV-2 are back on the rise in Belgium, the preliminary figures on the dashboard of health institute Sciensano show. Belgium lifted most coronavirus restrictions on March 10.
Between March 10 and 16, an average of 160.6 people with COVID-19 were admitted to the hospital each day, an increase of 13 percent. A total of 2,252 COVID patients are now in Belgian hospitals (+12 percent), 178 of whom (-7 percent) are in intensive care units.
Between 7 and 13 March, an average of 8.145 corona infections were registered, or 28 percent more than in the previous period. In the same timeframe, an average of 20 people died daily from COVID-19, an increase of 16 percent.
The positivity ratio rose further to 25.4 percent. The reproduction rate stands at 1.09, meaning that the epidemic is growing in strength.
