COP27: Belgium and Egypt launch global forum on renewable hydrogen

Belgium's Prime Minister, Alexander De Croo, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sissi announced on Wednesday the launch of a Global Green Hydrogen Forum on the sidelines of COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh.

The forum aims to advance the development of the green hydrogen value chain worldwide. It brings together public authorities, the private sector, port authorities and intergovernmental organisations.

The new platform is designed to facilitate the large-scale deployment of renewable hydrogen to help decarbonise local industries, accelerate the "just transition" to green energy and development, and unlock the environmental and socio-economic potential of the global hydrogen economy.

It aims to identify the best instruments to enable cross-border trade in renewable hydrogen and will work to remove regulatory barriers, for example, by standardising certification systems, its advocates say.
