Construction of cycling highway between Anderlecht and city of Brussels begins

Construction has started in Brussels on the 6.5-kilometre cycle highway between Anderlecht and the City of Brussels. This was reported by the Brussels public building authority Beliris in a press release on Monday.
The cycling and walking path will cross five municipalities: City of Brussels, Jette, Koekelberg, Molenbeek and Anderlecht. The project is part of a wider network of cycle highways that connects to other cycle routes in the country, Beliris said.
Cyclostrade C223 will connect Bockstael (Laeken) to the former Cureghem station (Anderlecht) along railway line 28, which runs between Schaerbeek station and Brussels-South.
"These developments represent a big step forward for active mobility in Brussels. By making it easier to get around by bike and on foot thanks to adapted infrastructure, Beliris is contributing to a more sustainable, accessible and liveable city," a press release reads.
The cycle highway should be completed by winter 2026. The budget of just under a million euros is funded by a grant from the European Recovery Plan.
