Colruyt completes sale of supermarkets and petrol stations in France

Belgian retailer Colruyt Group has completed the sale of its supermarkets and petrol stations in France. The sale is expected to generate cash proceeds of around 230 million euros. According to French trade unions, more than 700 jobs were lost.
Colruyt had been active on the French market since 1996 but announced last year that it was withdrawing from France. One hundred supermarkets and 45 petrol stations were eventually sold. Most of the supermarkets were taken over by Group Mousquetaires, best known for the Intermarché retail brand.
No buyer was found for a handful of shops and warehouses. According to French trade unions, more than 700 jobs were lost as a result of the operation.
The sale of the business activities was completed on 28 February, announced Colruyt. The shops for which no buyer was found have been closed. The search for buyers for the real estate continues.
The sale is expected to generate cash proceeds of approximately 230 million euros in the second half of the 2025/26 financial year. The implementation of the social agreement will result in an estimated restructuring cost of between 55 million and 65 million euros.
