Club Brugge president Bart Verhaeghe appointed vice-chairman of EFC

Club Brugge president Bart Verhaeghe has been appointed vice-chairman of European Football Clubs (EFC), the body representing the interests of Europe’s leading football clubs. The Belgian club announced the appointment on Tuesday.
The 61-year-old Verhaeghe joined the board of the European Club Association in October 2024. The organisation was renamed European Football Clubs a year later. In December 2025, he became a member of the EFC board of directors.
Alongside his new role as vice-chairman, Verhaeghe will succeed Peter Lawwell, former chairman of Celtic FC, as head of subdivision 2. This group comprises clubs from countries ranked between seventh and fifteenth in the UEFA country coefficients. Belgium currently ranks eighth. The EFC is divided into four subdivisions, with the first bringing together the most prominent clubs.
"I am deeply honoured by both these appointments," Verhaeghe said in a statement released by Club Brugge. "It is recognition of the professional work carried out by everyone at the club and provides fresh motivation to continue addressing the challenges in European football together."
The EFC was founded in 2008 as the successor to the now-defunct G-14 and represents more than 800 clubs across Europe. It is chaired by Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, who also leads Paris Saint-Germain FC.
In recent years, the organisation has grown into a powerful force in the sport. In 2021, together with UEFA, it opposed the creation of the European Super League and supported reforms to the UEFA Champions League.
