Club Brugge beat Anderlecht 2-1 to win the Belgian Cup

Club Brugge won the Belgian Cup for the 12th time in its history on Sunday evening. The Belgian champions beat RSC Anderlecht 2-1 in a tense final at the King Baudouin stadium.
The atmosphere in Brussels was tense even before the match. The police had their hands full trying to keep the fans of the two rival clubs apart, and the smoke from fireworks filled the air both inside and outside the stadium.
Once on the pitch, Club Brugge dominated most of the game, with striker Romeo Vermant scoring both goals. Despite a late goal from Luis Vazquez to make it 2-1, Anderlecht were never able to match the quality of the Belgian champions.
This is the twelfth time Club Brugge have lifted the trophy. The club last won the trophy in 2015, also against Anderlecht, and lost in the final to Standard in 2016 and Antwerp in 2020. Anderlecht, who were seeking their tenth trophy, have not won the competition since 2008.
