After its Oscar nomination in the 'Best International Film' category Tuesday, the Belgian film 'Close' has now also been nominated for France's national César award. Lukas Dhont's film was nominated in the Best International Film category, the Flemish Audiovisual Fund announced.
'Close' will compete against 'Las Bestias' (Spain), 'The Cairo Conspiracy' (Sweden), 'Eo' (Poland) and 'Triangle of Sadness' (Sweden). The following voting round will start on 1 February and run until 24 February, when the awards will be presented at a ceremony at Paris' Olympia.
Dhont's feature debut 'Girl' was also nominated for a César in 2019. The last Flemish winner at the Césars was Felix van Groeningen's 'The Broken Circle Breakdown' in 2014, also nominated for an Oscar in the same year.
Lukas Dhont is not the only Belgian shortlisted for a César award. Virginie Efira was nominated for the César for best actress for her role in Alice Winocour's 'Revoir Paris', and Bouli Lanners is competing in the best supporting actor category for his role in Dominik Moll's 'La Nuit du 12'.
The 48th César award ceremony will take place in Paris on 24 February 2023.
