Charging points for electric cars in Flanders up tenfold in five years

The number of charging points for electric cars in Flanders has increased almost tenfold in five years, according to new figures from Statistiek Vlaanderen.
By the end of 2025, there were 72,646 public and semi-public charging points across the region. In 2020, there were just 7,347.
Public charging points are available to drivers 24 hours a day. Semi-public chargers are on private land but open to the public for at least ten hours a day.
At the end of 2025, Flanders had 25,481 public charging points. That is 44 per cent more than a year earlier, when there were 17,652. Compared with 2020, the number has increased sixfold.
The number of semi-public charging points also rose, though at a slower pace. There were 47,165 by the end of last year, up 13 per cent from 41,587 the year before. That is fifteen times more than in 2020.
Of the public charging points, 3,406 are fast chargers, making up 13 per cent of the total. Fast chargers have a capacity of more than 23 kilowatts. Most provide 50 kilowatts, allowing a car to charge in around 30 minutes.
Some 2,906 of these are ultra-fast chargers, with a capacity of at least 150 kilowatts. These can charge a car battery to 80 per cent in about ten minutes.
Among semi-public chargers, 1,273 are fast chargers, including 779 ultra-fast units.
