CEO of Federation of Belgian Enterprises to leave post

The CEO of the Federation of Belgian Enterprises, Pieter Timmermans, has announced that he will step down by the start of next year, according to a statement from the federation.

The FEB says this plan “has been in place for several years”, in order to take account of a number of key dates in domestic politics, such as the elections in 2024, the formation of new federal and regional governments in 2025 and this year’s round of consultations with the trade unions within the Group of Ten, the main forum for consultation between trade unions and employers.

“This has been a closely guarded secret, but one that has also been carefully prepared,” Timmermans said. “All the pieces of the jigsaw are in place so that I can, with conviction and complete peace of mind, pass the baton to my successor at the start of next year. I will then remain active behind the scenes to provide support and advice to the FEB’s management.”

The organisation must now seek a successor to Timmermans, who has been at the helm of the FEB since 1998. During his tenure he has negotiated around 10 sector-wide agreements setting out pay and working conditions in the private sector.
