Casino project in Middelkerke wins International Architecture Award 2022

The new casino project in Middelkerke has won the International Architecture Award 2022. The coastal municipality announced this on Monday. The building is still under construction and will include a gaming room, a hotel and an event space. The opening is planned for December 2023.

The International Architecture Awards are the oldest global awards in the field of building. The design of the new casino building is the work of architects ZJA and DELVA Landscape Architects, in collaboration with Bouwteam Nautilus.

The casino building will house a restaurant, a foyer, an events hall with seating for 1,700 people and a games room. There will also be an underground car park and a hotel with some 60 rooms. The casino's gaming room will have a view of the sea. The building promises to be an eye-catcher on the coast and will have the shape of a bollard, a bollard to which ships are tied with rope.

Mayor of Middelkerke Jean-Marie Dedecker is delighted with the award. "The presentation of the International Architecture Award proves that two years ago we chose the best proposal. The unanimous choice then is now reinforced by this award. Meanwhile, the construction of this eye-catcher for our municipality has started. We cannot wait for the new events building to crank up the experience in our municipality like a flywheel. I would like to congratulate the building team, the designers and the contractors on winning this award!"
