Brussels hosts the second round of the BMX Freestyle World Cup
From Thursday 30 June to Sunday 3 July, the second round of the BMX Freestyle World Cup will take place in Brussels' Josaphat Park, as part of the Urban Session Brussels.
The French city of Montpellier will host the first round of the BMX Freestyle World Cup from May 25-29, followed by the second round in Brussels. A third round is scheduled for 20-23 October in Gold Coast, Australia. Montpellier will host the Park and Flatland events, while Brussels and Gold Coast will host only the Park event, where riders compete in a skate park.
Urban Sessions Brussels
The Brussels event is set to take place as part of Urban Sessions Brussels, a festival dedicated to urban sports, which will span a long weekend with competitions, demonstrations and initiations in BMX Freestyle, Parkour, Breakdance and Skate. There will also be music, street art and food.
BMX freestyle first became an Olympics discipline at the recent Tokyo Olympics. The 2022 UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup will also take place partly in Belgium, with the first round in Ostend.
"Following the cancellation of the 2020 UCI World Cup due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Ostend hosted the only round that could go ahead last year," the International Cycling Union (UCI) announced on Monday. "The calendar for 2022 is back to normal, with the opening round in the Belgian port city taking place from May 5 to 8."
