Flower Carpet unveiled on Grand Place in Brussels
The biennial Flower Carpet will be on show at the Grand Place in Brussels until Sunday. This year's work consists exclusively of dahlias.
Organisers of the 23rd edition of the event are aiming to target a younger and more diverse audience but also want to radically change the form. The floral masterpiece will consist mostly of dahlias instead of begonias. The dahlia, according to the organisation, is both robust and aesthetic and thus offers the “perfect opportunity to rejuvenate the image of the carpet”.
Liège street artist Océane Cornille, under the pseudonym Whoups, is designing the carpet. The artist draws inspiration from the concept of the root plant rhizome, as a metaphor of the "urban rhizome", where neighbourhoods assemble and create a complex dynamic network.
Tickets to view the carpet from the Brussels City Hall are available on the website, and entrance to the Grand Place to view it from ground level is free.
