Brussels’ Fix My Street app receives 14,000 complaints about cleanliness in 6 months

The City of Brussels’ waste management department handled almost 14,000 complaints about public cleanliness via the Fix My Street platform in the first half of the year.

The vast majority of reports were about illegal dumping, followed by non-compliant bin bags and overflowing or soiled public bins.

The fixmystreet.brussels app and website allow anyone to report incidents in public spaces in the capital, such as potholes, faulty lampposts or damaged street furniture. Problems of public cleanliness can also be reported via the platform.

Users indicate the location, along with a brief description of the problem and an optional photo. The report is forwarded to the relevant public service and the user can receive updates on its progress.

From January to June this year, the City of Brussels received 13,852 complaints relating to public cleanliness, a slight increase on the 13,504 recorded in the first half of last year.

“Reports from our residents, who know their neighbourhoods better than anyone else, are crucial,” said Anas Ben Abdelmoumen of PS, the councillor responsible for public cleanliness.

“Thanks to Fix My Street, anyone can easily submit a complaint, enabling us to map the problem clearly and provide the appropriate solution.”

The number of cleanliness-related reports sent via Fix My Street is increasing every year. There were 18,175 in 2022, 23,176 in 2023 and 29,717 last year. Reports can also be made via the freephone number 0800 90 107.
