Brussels court extends pre-trial detention of Belgian MEP Marc Tarabella

On Friday, the Brussels indictment chamber decided to extend the pre-trial detention of Belgian MEP Marc Tarabella by one month, reported his defence lawyers. Tarabella's defence had asked for his release.

The Federal Prosecutor's Office has been conducting a major investigation into attempts by the Gulf state of Qatar and Morocco to influence the economic and political decision-making of the European Parliament.

In that investigation, Belgian MEP Marc Tarabella was placed under arrest on 11 February. Whistleblower Pier Antonio Panzeri recently admitted that Tarabella was to receive a total of €250,000 by the end of the legislature in 2024, which the Belgian MEP strongly denies.
